What it usually turns out to be
Start at the filter and the sump. A chip of glass, a fruit stone or a wire twist-tie in the impeller stops a drain pump dead, and clearing it is minutes. Next is the drain hose: if it has lost its high loop behind the cabinet, the machine siphons back and never empties. A failed pump is the last item on that list.
A cycle that quits two minutes in is usually a door latch switch making and breaking as a custom panel flexes, or a float in the sump sitting where the control reads an overfill. Both are cheap; both get proved with a meter across the switch while the door is worked, rather than by fitting a control board and hoping.
Film is heat and water: an element gone open, a dispenser solenoid not releasing, or an underfill from a tired float. Water on the floor is more often a hose weeping at its crimp or a gasket gone hard than a cracked tub — and the cabinet floor under the machine gets checked for damage before anything is closed back up.
